Burnett's Landscaping Salem, Connecticut (860) 859-3100

Logo design by Kelly Lavallee, Advisions, about 1991.

Burnett's Landscaping
, as it was named in 1974 when it was started by Dave and Cheryl Burnett, was devoted to residential plantings, maintenance, lawn construction and snow plowing. The operation started with one dump truck, a trailer and one "very used" tractor. The business was located at Dave and Cheryl's home in Salem. Dave spent weekends and evenings doing estimates, and weekdays completing the work. Cheryl handled the telephone and all bookkeeping functions associated with the business. Today, 25 years later, under the same ownership, they're proud to say that they've become one of the largest landscape operations in Connecticut, employing seven landscape crews, four experienced designers, one full time mechanic and a fully staffed office.
In 2005, Dave and Cheryl sold the business to Mary Richardson, a long time employee and manager.

The farm that they call Scott's Orchard & Nursery was once part of the J. Peter Pilgard farm. In the 1940's the land was purchased by William and Ann Villa and operated as an orchard with a roadside market until their retirement in 1972. At that time it was sold to its current owners Woody and JoAnn Scott. They continued growing apples, peaches, pears and plums and added several acres of vegetables and flowers.

In 1997 they added more greenhouses and started a retail garden center. Starting with just a few annuals, perennials, and mulch, they are quickly becoming a well-rounded garden center with plant material from all over the United States. They carry a large supply of specimen trees as well as common, native stock grown right here in Connecticut. They are rapidly becoming known for their extensive perennial selection and their selection of annuals grows each year as well. Their son Mike joined the business in 1998 and in 2000 their son Charlie started Scott's Orchard & Nursery Landscaping. Their knowledgeable staff designs and installs landscapes their customers desire.Their family and staff have extensive backgrounds in horticulture and farming. On staff are both Certified Master Gardeners and Connecticut Accredited Nursery Professionals.
